Collection Management Policy (PDF)

Objective

The purpose of the Messenger Public Library of North Aurora is to provide all individuals in the community with carefully selected books and other resources to aid the individual in the pursuit of education, information, research, pleasure, and the creative use of leisure time. Library staff strive to provide current and factual information, to supplement and enrich individual learning, and to provide materials for recreational reading and other leisure time activities. This information should be readily available to the total community regardless of gender, age, education, language, religion, ethnic and cultural background, or mental and physical ability.

The Messenger Public Library upholds the American Library Association in the following statements

  1. Library Bill of Rights
  2. Freedom to Read Statement
  3. Freedom to View Statement
  4. Access to Library Resources and Services for Minors: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights
  5. Access to Library Resources and Services Regardless of Sex, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, or Sexual Orientation: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights
  6. Diversity in Collection Development, an interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights
  7. Evaluating Library Collections, an interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights

The collection management policy, like all other policies, will be reviewed and/or revised at least every three years, or as the need arises.

Reconsideration of Library Resources Policy (PDF)

Although the library accepts responsibility for providing free access by the public to all points of view, the addition of an item to the collection in no way represents an endorsement by the library to any theory, idea, or policy contained therein.
