Curbside Holds Pickup Services

Curbside Pickup service is currently available to Messenger Public Library patrons.


WHAT IS THE CURBSIDE HOLDS PICKUP SERVICE?


Messenger Public Library cardholders can place holds on items they want to check out. W​hen the items become available, you will be notified by the method you have chosen.

Who can place holds?
Messenger Public Library cardholders with library cards in good standing. 
 

 

What items can I get?
Books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, video games, and WiFi hotspots that are owned by Messenger Public Library.  
Items are available from other SWAN Consortium libraries for pickup at Messenger Public Library.

Children's Book Boxes and adult and children's craft kits will also be available for pickup. Please specify the item/s that you are here to pick up when you arrive at curbside.

Wait for notification that your items are ready for pickup

You will be notified of available holds via the method you chose when your library card was created.  This may be email, text or telephone. Please do not come to the Library before you receive this notification, as your materials will not be ready.

 
 Pick up your holds outside the Library building

**Please bring your library card and cell phone with you.

Call the library at 630-896-0240 and press 1 to let us know you are here

By car: Pull into the circle drive on the west side of the library and call the library at 630-896-0240, press 1.
By bike or foot: Find the space marked for Walk-Up Holds Pickup Services on the west side of the building and call 630-896-0240, press 1.

Curbside services may be temporarily suspended in the event of extreme weather conditions, such as a wind chill factor below zero, driving rain, snow and ice that library removal services cannot keep up with, lightning, and winds greater than 40 miles per hour.


CURBSIDE HOLDS PICKUP SERVICE – FAQS


What are the hours for Curbside Holds Pickup Service?

  • When you are notified that your holds are available, you are welcome to utilize curbside service.  
  • Holds may be picked up  once you have been notified that your material is available.  
  • Requests for items must be made at least 24 hours prior to pickup.

How long can I keep items once I’ve checked them out?

All items are currently checked out for 28 days. Items that are not on hold for another patron are eligible for 2 automatic renewals. DVDs are not eligible for renewal.
 
How do I return items once I’m done?

  • Please drop off material through the materials return slots on the west side of the library.
  • Staff will not accept returns from cars or walk-ups.


What if I don’t have a Messenger Public Library card?

If you live in North Aurora and you are over 13 years old, you can apply for a Messenger Library digital card via the library’s website: www.messengerpl.org. 


What if my library card is blocked due to fines or overdue items?
You can pay your fines online through the SWAN Online Catalog. Just log in with your library card number and PIN.

Library cards are unblocked as soon as overdue items are returned in good condition.
